Simonetta Corsolini (PhD in Environmental Biology, 1998) is an Assistant Professor of Ecology at the Department of Environmental Science “G. Sarfatti” of the University of Siena, Italy. Her work has been focused since the beginning on the study of endocrine disruptor and other xenobiotic bioaccumulation in food webs and the risk assessment for organisms from Antarctic and Mediterranean Seas. Main original researches have been: Presence of persistent organic pollutants in the Antarctic marine ecosystems, and biomagnification; Toxic chemicals in commercial fish and assessment of the TWI; Study of the dioxin-like compound toxicity (TEQs) in marine organisms (cetaceans, marine turtles, fish and sharks) and humans; Use of non-lethal methods to study toxic chemicals in marine harvested species and biota in marine protected areas. She participated to seven Antarctic expeditions and she is a member of the Commission for Conservation of Antarctic Living Resources Working Group on the Ecosystem Monitoring Management. She is a professor of “Ecotoxicology of Organic Contaminants” and “Analyses of Contaminants” at the Faculty of Science of the University of Siena.
